The government is expanding eligibility for Free School Meals (FSM) from September 2026. The previous income cap for households receiving Universal Credit is being removed.

From September 2026, Free School Meals will be split into two categories:

Targeted FSM – includes eligibility for additional pupil funding for schools (Pupil Premium)

Expanded FSM – provides free school meals only

If your child is in Reception or Key Stage 1, or if your family has previously been ineligible, we still encourage you to apply. This could help your child access free meals while also securing valuable additional funding for the school.

Families currently receiving FSM funding will be automatically re-checked, and the correct category will be allocated from September 26.
