PSHE

All Saints CE School Personal, Social, Health Education (PSHE)

Intent

At All Saints, our intent is for all pupils to feel valued as individuals, with a strong personal identity, as well as a sense of belonging in our school and community.  With a diverse and inclusive community, we are able to learn about, and value, our similarities and differences in an environment of open discussion, shared knowledge, respect and tolerance.  We want our pupils to be independent and prepared to take on responsibilities within the school and wider community. Whilst nurturing mental and physical health, we also aim for our children to build strong emotional literacy to build up resilience which allows them to deal with conflict in today’s changing world.

Implementation

We use the Jigsaw PSHE Curriculum to bring together Personal, Social, Health and Well-being Education, emotional literacy, social skills and spiritual development in a comprehensive scheme of learning.

Jigsaw covers all areas of PSHE for the primary phase including statutory Relationships and Health Education. The table below gives the learning theme of each of the six Puzzles (units) and these are taught across the school; the learning deepens and broadens every year.

Impact

Jigsaw aims to help children know and value who they really are and how they relate to other people in this ever-changing world.

This also supports the “Personal Development” and “Behaviour and Attitude” aspects required under the Ofsted Inspection Framework, as well as significantly contributing to the school’s Safeguarding and Equality Duties, the Government’s British Values agenda and the SMSC (Spiritual, Moral, Social, Cultural) development opportunities provided for our children.

We can see the impact of the programme through the behaviours and attitudes of the pupils within school and their relationships with each other.
